Abstract
This paper aims to discuss and broaden understanding of renewable energy technology dissemination and its socioeconomic considerations at the household level, with a focus on solar photovoltaic (PV) energy. An outline is given on current trends in solar technology usage in Kenya. The broad context of stakeholder needs, social dynamics, infrastructure, and public policy are then discussed to inform future renewable energy policy and project planning. The paper advocates for the creation of a common platform for investigating sound renewable energy technologies and developing realistic, regionally and locally focussed energy access strategies for their sustainable introduction.
