Abstract
In April/May 1985 ITDG undertook, on behalf the UNHCR, a stoves and fuel assessment in the East Sudanese Refugee camps. By then, the emergency food, water and medical programmes were becoming established as the refugee population in that region began to stabilise around 350, 000. Although the oncoming rainy season showed some prospects for agriculture in Ethiopia, where most refugees originate and some even talked of returning, the UNHCR and Government Authorities were under no illusion that the 50-60, 000 families in the camps were in Sudan to stay for some considerable time...
