5th Conference on Adaptation to Climate Change in Developing Countries

The conference focuses on the risks of climate change and the importance of climate adaptation in food and water security. The conference takes place a few days before the next COP negotiations in Durban. One of the themes in these negotiations is the international financing of adaptation measures in developing countries.

The conference starts with eight workshops, organized by various organizations who will present their projects.
During the plenary session Bram Bregman (KNMI, Radboud University and member of the Dutch delegation IPCC) and Maarten van Aalst (Director Red Cross Climate Centre and coordinating Lead Author of the IPCC Special Report) will present the IPCC special Report “Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation”. This report will be released a few days before the conference.

The final part is a debate. How can Dutch society contribute to the success of the Great Green Wall of Africa? A debate with Madeleen Helmer (Great Green Wall Coalition), Frans van den Boom (director NCDO), Ton Dietz (Director of the African Studies Centre) and a representative of the business sector.

The conference is organised by the HIER Klimaatcampagne in cooperation with partners united in the Millennium Agreement "Controlling Climate Risks". The conference is organised in the scope of the so called Millennium Agreements; public private partnerships between ngo’s, business and the department of international cooperation from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs to forward the Millennium Development Goals.
