GVEP International (Global Village Energy Partnership) is looking to recruit a part-time bilingual Communications Officer to support its communications team and the francophone programme.

Based in the GVEP’s head office in London, the Communications Officer will assist the Communications Manager in maintaining the content management system (CMS), moderating the online community, generating and editing content for the organisation’s multilingual website. The role also includes promoting GVEP’s brand through social networks and online fora and assisting with the production of publications material (annual reviews, brochures and marketing material, including video and audio files).

Candidates will be of graduate calibre, bilingual (French and English, ideally French native) and have the confidence and ability to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders. They will have excellent written skills both in French and English and the ability to summarise complex information, as well as a good working knowledge of digital and social media including web based content management systems.

Job description:
  • Maintaining and updating web pages using GVEP’s web content management system (Drupal); and moderating the online energy community. This involves handling queries, providing feedback, posting announcements, events and relevant resources and approving new community members as required.
  • Supporting GVEP’s search engine optimisation strategy by analysing GVEP’s web traffic through Google Analytics; and generating comprehensive reports of user’s behaviours.
  • Supporting the social media strategy by consolidating GVEP’s presence on francophone social networks and fora.
  • Sourcing, writing and editing copy for the website (news stories, case studies, photo stories and video stories) in French and English. This includes: providing clear and concise web content following GVEP’s editorial and style guides and best practice; working closely with the West Africa team to gather material for publication; formatting images for the web using Photoshop; editing short video clip and audio files.
  • Supporting GVEP’s PR strategy and liaise with the media West Africa where appropriate.
  • Assisting with the production of publications, marketing material and a quarterly e-newsletter. Most of the writing will be done in French but sometime the candidate may need to generate content in English or to translate copy from or into French.

Person Specification:
  • Fully bilingual in English and French (must be a native French speaker)
  • Degree in media and communications; journalism or mass communications
  • Must enjoy writing
  • Internet technologies savvy: familiarity with HTML and with handling content management systems, image editing softwares and mass campaign tools: specifically Drupal, Wordpress and Adobe Creative Suite Programs such as Photoshop and Premiere.
  • Highly responsive and capable of working well independently
  • Prior blogging experience would be great
  • Conversant with search engine usage and techniques
  • Understanding of, or experience with link building
  • Experience using social networking platforms
  • Experience using social bookmarking and news sharing sites
