Simpa Networks seeks a detail-oriented Energy System Engineer to join their growing Product Development team. They are a fast-paced, mission-driven company based in Bangalore, India building a world-class team committed to serving their rural and urban customers. The Energy System Engineer will provide both technical knowledge and expertise in the fields of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering to the development and integration of Simpa’s line of home energy products. The Energy System Engineer will be the chief experimental engineer within the company on the energy side, working closely with the VP Product to envision a range of Simpa-enabled energy systems. He/she is responsible for the generation and interpretation of all experimental data on energy consumption, product and component prototyping, and product performance.

Reporting to the VP Product, the Energy System Engineer will be a vital part of the early stage Product Design and Development team at Simpa Networks.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Model and draft specifications for new energy systems in cooperation with the Industrial Designer and Simpa’s hardware partners
  • Prototype new system designs in cooperation with Industrial Designer
  • Create and analyze mathematical models to predict possible energy requirements, usage scenarios, service needs, and product failure modes
  • Process feedback from customers and technicians into technical design revisions
  • Oversee product recalls or refitting of new features or components
  • Writes specifications for data logging requirements and procure proper data logging equipment
  • Ensure proper data collection and analysis in support of product development and customer value proposition research
  • Travel domestically and internationally for site evaluation, system troubleshooting, and building stakeholder relations
  • Evaluate emerging renewable energy technology components for incorporation into Simpa Energy Systems and learn the implementation of new technologies as necessary in the discharge of responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must hold an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree from an accredited four year engineer program
  • Show an understanding in basic mechanical concepts such as stress and strain and material properties and basic electrical concepts, e.g. voltage, power, amperage, frequency, circuit protection, generator function & maintenance, solar power, batteries, and AC vs. DC power
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems in the field and implement possible solutions
  • Very familiar with computer use, and regularly use software as tools during technical training
  • Candidate has taken several lab classes covering topics such as: simple machine operation & design, metal & wood working, and circuit assembly on breadboards.
  • At a minimum, the candidate should also have taken 1 course focusing on the design process.
  • It is expected that the candidate can comfortably communicate in English in technical conversations.
  • Candidate is willing and eager to learn topics that build on their basic understanding and shoulder responsibilities not explicitly referred to in their job description or their contract.
  • Candidate must be willing to relocate to Bangalore, India.

Preferred Qualification

  • Masters’ degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering specializing in Product Design or has 2 years’ experience in analyzing and installing solar power.
  • Understands energy storage, battery maintenance and more complicated electrical engineering concepts such as reactive power and phasors.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams previously and has shown the ability to develop an understanding of technical topics they were not directly trained in.
  • Extensive experience working in developing countries and willingness to work in rural areas.
  • All candidates should have two references from previous employers or professors.
