The role will revolve around designing and implementing rural marketing and sales strategies, as well as supply-chain and product management. Promoted by a team of esteemed IIT alumnus, Sustaintech is developing new channels of business to underserved rural customers and partnering with state-of-the-art green technology developers. Its goal is to challenge the paradigm that a clean development is not accessible to the poor.
Sustaintech is currently in market with 3 commercial, high-efficiency wood-stove models targeting rural and semi-urban street food vendors, hotels, and tea shops in Tamil Nadu. The innovative business model has been piloted with success and the company has just finalized terms for a sizable round of venture capital funding. The company is ready for rapid scaling and expansion to seize this tremendous market opportunity.

Job Description

Position: CEO
  • Sustaintech requires its first CEO to lead the process of rapid expansion.
  • All aspects of management including sales force / channel building, financial management, brand building, and strategic planning will be required to be taken up by the candidate.
  • Position will report to the Board of Directors to achieve all financial, social and environmental impact goals set in the original plan.
  • Currently the company’s biggest market is Tamil Nadu while the current corporate headquarters is in Bangalore. Frequent travel to rural Tamil Nadu, Chennai, and Bangalore will be required.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong leadership and team building skills, with proven, successful sales management experience of at least 5 years in rural market areas including profit centre responsibility.
  • Experience with rural marketing and strategic planning required; additional knowledge of human resources is a plus.
  • Strong financial acumen required including budget development and review, cashflow management, and balance sheet interpretation.
  • Track record of success in launching new products into the market and building distribution channels. Demonstrated entrepreneurial competencies.
  • Genuine interest and passion in the development sector is a must. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to being a change-maker in the social development sector.
  • Command over the Tamil language is desired but not required.
  • Study/Work experience in South India, preferably Tamil Nadu is welcomed.
